CranioSacral Therapy CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, light-touch
method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the craniosacral
system - the physiological body system comprised of the membranes
and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal
cord.
The
importance of the craniosacral system to continued good health The craniosacral system is vital as it influences the
development and performance of the brain and spinal cord, imbalance or
restriction in this system could potentially cause any number of
sensory, motor, or neurological distortions. These expressions
could include chronic pain, eye difficulties, motor-coordination
impairments, and other health challenges.
CST enhances the
body's natural healing processes to improve the operation of the
central nervous system, dissipate the negative effects of stress,
enhance health and strengthen resistance to disease. The method
generally requires only five grams of pressure - the equivalent weight
of a nickel - to test for restrictions in various parts of
the craniosacral system. Often the evaluation alone will help solve
the presenting complaint.
What are the benefits from
receiving CranioSacral Therapy? While the subtle manipulations engage the craniosacral
system they also stimulate the functioning of the immune and
parasympathetic nervous systems. It is shown that when these actions
are accomplished, the results may benefit those
experiencing:
• Migraine
headaches • Traumatic brain and
spinal cord injuries • Chronic
neck and back pain • Emotional
difficulties • Motor-coordination
impairments • Stress and
tension-related
difficulties • Central nervous system
disorders • Temporomandibular
joint dysfunction (TMJ) • Orthopedic
difficulties •
Scoliosis • Chronic fatigue
syndrome and fibromyalgia •
Neurovascular or immune
disorders • Postsurgical
dysfunction

How often should a CranioSacral session
be received?
---------------- The number and frequency of sessions received
varies, yet a minimum series of three sessions is recommended.
Maintenance sessions, if needed, should be at intervals of
every two to four weeks.
